On Tuesday October 22nd the Rotary Club of Conroe is hosting an event/fundraiser to help eradicate Polio from the world. It is still an active disease in parts of the middle east. Nigeria is the last country in Africa that has had a case of Polio. Nigeria’s last detected case was on August 21, 2016. An independent investigation is ongoing to verify that no new cases have occurred since this date. Upon confirmation that no new cases have occurred within 3-years of the August 21, 2016 case, Nigeria, and Africa, will be certified as polio free. This is expected to occur first quarter 2020. Your help over years past has assisted in providing polio vaccinations to countries still fighting this debilitating disease. The event is come and go 6:30 - 9:00 in Willis at the North Montgomery County Community Center. A silent auction is also planned for the evening. The event will include exhibitors of local restaurants, Texas wines, Texas distilled spirits, and Texas breweries. Tickets for the event are $25 per person. The ticket provides for admittance and tasting of various local food and beverage companies. $5 of each ticket is matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help end Polio. Each ticket results in $15 towards polio vaccines, which equates to 30 vaccines. Tickets can be bought through your local Conroe Rotarian. Cash or Check payable to “Rotary Club of Conroe Foundation”
